New Wrestling Games At E3!
May 27, 2005 - Posted by Dave

...there are none.

Biggest gaming event of the year and not one new game to try out or even announced. You would think that with DoR2 right around the corner and with new WWE games promised for PS2 and even a handheld that there would have been something, anything, to check out at E3 this year. All we saw was an old trailer for WM21. Glorious WM21. We didn't even have a new Legends of Wrestling, Backyard Wrestling, or even Def Jam to placate our itch. TNA game? Nope, not at E3.

Has the industry become even more adverse to risk than last year, hailed unanimously as Year of the Safe Sequels? It seemed like unless you were developing for Sony or Microsoft (or you were making a Zelda game) nobody cared. I feel bad for Gamecube owners like myself. DoR2 will arguably be the best wrestling game on the console but, sorry, that's a silly Gamecube game so why waste booth space on it. I guess they figured most people would rather look at a display case full of Diva pics. Judging by the line up to meet Stacy I'm inclined to think that they're right.

If ever there was proof that lack of competition is bad for wrestling gamers it was there at E3 this year. I still can't believe it. Nothing. All those fancy new systems, all those handhelds, and the highlight of the show for me this year was a mini golf game on Gizmondo. Unless you live and breath World War II shooters it's not a great year to be a gamer. Well, at least City of Villains had a very cool create-a-wrestler we could play with, I mean create-a-villain. Dammit all!

My only consolation was getting my picture taken with The Rock on the way to L.A.
